ZombiU inspired by Metroid

Tuesday, October 16th, 2012

In an interview to EL33TONLINE, Nicolas Robin, associate producer for Ubisoft’s Wii U survival horror ZombiU, said that their game’s world structure was inspired by Metroid.

And regarding the structure of the world we were really inspired by Metroid. So basically you will gain some abilities or new tools that you will discover in the game. There are very open areas that we show but you are not able to go there.

Exploration limited to the player’s skills and tools are very much a Metroid mechanic, and it’s nice to see it used in other games.

ZombiU will be released on November 18th in North America and November 30th in Europe, along with Nintendo’s new console Wii U. A limited edition bundle including the console and ZombiU will also be available in Europe.

Executive hints at Metroid on Wii U

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2012

During an interview for GamerLiveTV, Nintendo executive Scott Moffit gave a slight hint at a possible Metroid game for Nintendo’s new console, Wii U:

With Metroid Blast, you get to enjoy that franchise while the developers are, you know, thinking and imagining what could be possible with Metroid on Wii U.

He also said something similar about The Legend of Zelda series and its Nintendo Land minigame The Legend of Zelda: Battle Quest, mentioning that “all can’t wait to see what a Zelda experience might look like in high definition” and “there could be a lot of new features added with the GamePad.”

While the quote doesn’t confirm that Metroid is actually in development for Wii U, it shows that the possibility for a new entry is certainly there.
