MHQthon 2012

Wednesday, July 11th, 2012

Metroid Headquarters will be hosting a live event once again to raise money for Child’s Play. Last year they raised over $500 for the charity, and this year they hope to do the same again. Here’s a press release from Metroid HQ:

This Friday, beginning at 8:00pm CDT, we will be putting on our second annual Metroid marathon, which we call MHQthon 2012. In it, we will be playing every single one of the released Metroid games, in both an effort to provide entertainment for the Metroid and general video game communities, and (more importantly) to raise money for a charity called Child’s Play, who uses the money to help give children in hospitals and therapy facilities the opportunity to play some of their favorite age-appropiate video games while undergoing hardships.

Metroid Headquarters will also be celebrating their 8th year as a Metroid fan website during the Marathon, which as i’m sure you will agree, is a huge achievement. We wish them the best of luck and urge you to tune in and donate to a worthy cause. Additionally, i’d like to ask our members who have Facebook to check out the MHQthon event page.

Miyamoto on Metroid Wii U “could be really fantastic”

Friday, July 6th, 2012

Richard George, Executive Editor for IGN recently chatted with Shigeru Miyamoto on what he would like to see for Nintendo’s upcoming Wii U system. He indicated two franchises have his attention, one of which is Metroid.

“With Metroid it’s very easy to imagine some interesting implementation for Wii U, I think that having another screen with the gyro built in really gives you a lot of interesting opportunities for development, and we can bring a lot of our games to life in a completely unique way with that.”

“I feel like the possibilities of the GamePad for Metroid could be really fantastic, there’s certainly a lot that you could do there for that game.”

Miyamoto-san also stated that he would personally like to see Star Fox on Wii U.

Metroid Headquarters Marathon

Monday, July 2nd, 2012

Metroid Headquarters have announced their Second Annual MHQthon, which will start off on Friday, July 13 2012. Unlike last year, they’ll focus on beating the games quickly, as opposed to trying to get 100% on each game’s hardest difficulty setting. The goal is to raise donations for the Child’s Play charity, an organization dedicated to bring fun to children in hospitals through video games.

Stay tuned to Shinesparkers and Metroid Headquarters for more information on the marathon.

Samus & Joey is a three-volume, non-canon manga published in 2003 about Joey, a kid who becomes a self-nominated disciple of Samus after being saved by her. It brings a more comedic approach to Samus’ story. Metroid Database has been working on translating the story and has recently released chapter 9 in English.
