Nintendo announces new 3DS XL

Friday, June 22nd, 2012

The latest Nintendo Direct event has revealed that the 3DS will receive a new model in the form of the 3DS XL. The hardware will be much larger than the current 3DS model and have much larger screens. The top screen will be 4.88 inches with a lower touch screen of 4.18 inches, which is 90% larger than the current 3DS system. This means that the 3DS XL has the largest screens Nintendo has added to a portable handheld, even bigger than the DSi XL! In Japan the system will launch in Red and Blue colours, and Europe will receive a Silver colour also.

The system will also feature a slightly longer battery life between 3.5 and 6.5 hours and a 4GB SD card. It will launch in Europe and Japan on 28 July, in the USA on August 19th and for those of you in Australia and New Zealand, you’ll have to wait until August 23rd!. Current recommended retail price will be $199 US, $249.95 AU. The system should launch at a reasonable price in other regions.

Harmony of a Hunter: 101% Run Second Preview

Saturday, June 16th, 2012

Video not available

The second preview for our upcoming expansion album Harmony of a Hunter: 101% Run is now available!

Due to the popularity of Harmony of a Hunter, we have created an expansion featuring tracks that didn’t make it the first time around. 101% Run offers talent from the first album combined with some fresh new faces bringing something new to the expansion. It still promises the diverse range of talent and genres you heard on the first album, and we hope that it will be just as good as the original and allows us to express our passion and love for the Metroid franchise once again.

Harmony of a Hunter: 101% Run will be a two disc digital release, available for download later this year. For more information, be sure to check out the official Harmony of a Hunter website and Facebook group to let us know what you thought of the preview and to get Harmony of a Hunter news first!

Retro Studios too busy to be working on Zelda says Miyamoto

Thursday, June 14th, 2012

In an interview with Richard George of IGN, Shigeru Miyamoto has explained that Retro Studios are too busy to be currently working on a new Zelda game. There has been a lot of  speculation in the Metroid fan community surrounding Retro Studios new game, and it seems that Zelda can be crossed off the list for now.

Miyamoto: “In terms of them working on a Zelda, it’s not out of the question, certainly, for them to work on an entire Zelda game amongst themselves,” Miyamoto said. “Traditionally I think that the Zelda team has always had a close contact with anyone who’s working on a Zelda game. If you were going to have that happen in the US at Retro, that would be kind of difficult for them to be able to coordinate. Certainly they’re too busy for that sort of thing right now. It would probably require me to be involved to a great extent as well, so I would have to get over quite a bit too. I’d probably have to live in Texas… [laughs]”

These comments may bring an end to the rumours of a new Zelda title developed by Retro, but will raise further questions to what Retro are working on instead. We shall continue to keep you updated.

More Metroid elements in Nintendo Land

Wednesday, June 6th, 2012

We’ve gotten more images of Metroid elements in Nintendo Land. Nintendo Land features various mini-games based on various Nintendo franchises.

In the park’s main area, we can see three items from Metroid: a large Ridley toy, a small Metroid statue and the Samus helmet logo in the entrance to the Metroid ride. Here are those images:

Some more Nintendo Land was shown yesterday night during the Wii U Developer Discussion, and, for a few seconds, we can see Samus’ gunship flying around the park.

Finally, Samus’ helmet appears in the collection of logos for the game.

The Nintendo E3 conference has just aired, showcasing a brand new game to launch with the Nintendo Wii U system called Nintendo Land. It is a piece of software featuring 12 different mini games in a theme park environment. Metroid will be featured in the game in some form, as the trailer showed Samus’s helmet and Ridley in the theme park itself.

Nintendo Land will feature a variety of different franchises including Zelda, Donkey Kong, Luigi’s Mansion and more. It will launch with the Wii U system this year.

Although Metroid fans may have been expecting more from E3, there is still hope! Coverage from Nintendo will be streamed over the next few days, including a special 3DS conference tomorrow at 6PM Pacific.
