The latest Nintendo Direct event has revealed that the 3DS will receive a new model in the form of the 3DS XL. The hardware will be much larger than the current 3DS model and have much larger screens. The top screen will be 4.88 inches with a lower touch screen of 4.18 inches, which is 90% larger than the current 3DS system. This means that the 3DS XL has the largest screens Nintendo has added to a portable handheld, even bigger than the DSi XL! In Japan the system will launch in Red and Blue colours, and Europe will receive a Silver colour also.
The system will also feature a slightly longer battery life between 3.5 and 6.5 hours and a 4GB SD card. It will launch in Europe and Japan on 28 July, in the USA on August 19th and for those of you in Australia and New Zealand, you’ll have to wait until August 23rd!. Current recommended retail price will be $199 US, $249.95 AU. The system should launch at a reasonable price in other regions.
