Samus Sculpture by Andrew Wilson

Friday, September 16th, 2011

Andrew Wilson has created this stunning Samus Aran sculpture and felt it was worth sharing with the wider Metroid community. The sculpture was created for Gallery1988’s “Old School Video Game Show” which starts tonight. The piece stands at around 9 inches tall and looks unique and stunning.

Andrew states in his blog that he hopes to sell the sculpture and quotes:

“(maybe?) for BILLIONS OF DOLLARS”

Andrew also has plans to create a Mother Brain sculpture and we wish him the very best of luck with that. We have contacted Andrew to give us some further information on his model and future plans for a Mother Brain sculpture and will update this news post if we receive something quotable from him. If you would like to see more images and information about the sculpture and the process it went through for building, you can check out Andrew’s blog here.

Kid Icarus: Uprising ‘Metroid’ cameo footage

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

Back in June we reported that Metroids would make an appearence in the upcoming Kid Icarus: Uprising game, which are also known as Komayto from the original Kid Icarus game on the NES. Below is some footage from the Nintendo 3DS conference that was shown on the 15th September 2011. The video shows a Komayto latching on to Pit and sucking energy from him. The game confirms that a Komayto AR card will be available for the game. Skip to 0:54 if you wish to see the ‘Metroid’. Kid Icarus: Uprising will launch worldwide in 2012, no specific release date confirmed just yet.

Harmony of a Hunter FLAC format now available

Saturday, September 10th, 2011

Metroid news has been rather lacking recently, however I wanted to update fans of Harmony of a Hunter that a FLAC version of the album is now available via torrent at the Metroid Database or alternatively for download via

FLAC offers a higher quality of audio but takes up more space, it should only be downloaded if you’re willing to sacrifice HDD space for quality. If you haven’t listened to Harmony of a Hunter yet, you can find out more information and download it from here.

A big thanks to Metroid Database and Zebes for hosting our files.

Only Human – A Super Metroid inspired song by Sebastian Mårtensson

Friday, September 2nd, 2011

It’s not very often I plug something like this for Shinesparkers, but I really loved it and felt others might too!

Sebastian Mårtensson, who created Kraid’s Campfire Ballard on Harmony of a Hunter has made a new song called “Only Human. It was inspired by Super Metroid and his thoughts on Samus from his point of view.

Metroid NES now available on Nintendo 3DS

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

Yesterday, Nintendo released ten NES games free to Nintendo 3DS Ambassadors who bought the system previous to the price drop on August 12th 2011. One of those games is the classic Metroid NES. The ten games were released this morning for Europeans, but Japan and the United States had the ability to download them earlier than announced. The game looks great on the handheld, if you owned Metroid NES on the Gameboy Advance you should know what to expect.

To download the games, enter the 3DS eShop on the 3DS home screen. From there, scroll left to Settings / Other. From there, scroll down to Your Downloads (or Titles You’ve Downloaded). If you are eligible as a Nintendo 3DS Ambassador, your ten free games should be in the list of already downloaded titles. You simply click “Redownload” to download the games to your system. If you’re a member of the United States and want to check your eligibility to the Nintendo 3DS Ambassador program, you can do so here.

Be sure to download the Nintendo Ambassador Certificate which can also be found in the downloads section. In the future, this will give notifications on the release of the ten free GBA games for Nintendo 3DS Ambassadors, one of which will be Metroid Fusion. Ensure that Notifications are switched on.

People who have downloaded Metroid NES on the 3DS have discovered that if you type the following code into the password screen:

The game will completely crash and you will be forced to restart the system by holding down the power button. This is quite humourous but I am sure multiple codes could cause the same effect with some experimentation. I have yet to test the code on the original Metroid NES game and other ports of the game, but I have tried the code myself on the 3DS and can confirm it works, much to my amusement…
