Team Ninja showed off its upcoming game for the 3DS, Dead or Alive: Dimensions at the Nintendo 3DS event in Amsterdam today. The game will feature a Metroid: Other M themed level, based around the area where you fight Ridley. A trailer was released showing fighters engaging in a fight with Ridley flying in the background. When one of the fighters falls off the stage, Ridley grabs the fighter and smashes him or her into the wall, just like he did with Samus in Other M. Towards the end of the video, you can see Samus morph ball into the area and drop a power bomb. It is unknown if you’ll be able to play as Samus in the game or not, but we’ll be keeping a close watch on this game. You can watch the trailer below…
In addition to the Metroid news, the 3DS has also been priced and dated. The system will launch first in Europe with a price tag of £229.99 on the 25th March 2011 followed by America on the 27th March 2011 with a price of $249.99.

It’s always great to hear a rumour for a new Metroid game, but when you’re at the center of the rumour, it’s a little strange. Recently I had replied to Jonathan Ross, an english tv celebrity and radio host about his preview of the 3DS, regarding his thoughts. A conversation started…
@wossy
A few other faves coming as well – plus a few unexpected revivals!! Can say no more, sorry.
@darrenkerwin
It’s absolutely fine, I don’t expect you to spill anything, it’s nice to have a surprise. I have my fingers crossed for Metroid..
@wossy
I think you’re going to be pleased then…
That last tweet caused a huge storm on many top gaming websites across the internet such as IGN, Eurogamer, Computerandvideogames, Digital Spy, Cubed3, Escapist Magazine, Aussie-Nintendo…the list goes on!
Needless to say the whole thing took me by surprise how one short innocent conversation lead to such a huge outbreak of news. Shortly after the rumour hit the internet, I contacted Jonathan directly to clarify what was going on and he confirmed that wires had been crossed. Jonathan later confirmed publically that it was the case and that his words were taken out of context.
On a personal note, I am still hoping that Nintendo confirm something Nintendo related themselves, their conference will be streamed tomorrow at 2PM (GMT) on the official site.
I wanted to take the opportunity to show off this amazing piece of music created by Sam Dillard. It is an orchestrated take on the Kraid’s Lair theme from Metroid NES and Brinstar Red from Super Metroid. In my opinion it’s one of the best pieces of fan made Metroid music i’ve heard in a long time and I hope you all think so too!
I would also like to give a notable mention to Metroid Headquarters who have just released their second podcast. This time they interviewed the owner of Metroid Recon, Falcon Zero! Be sure to check it out!
There really hasn’t been a great deal to update about this year so far, the world of Metroid has been a quiet one. We do have a few smaller updates to keep you tied over until bigger news comes however!
First of all, Nintendo’s latest handheld, the 3DS is currently been showcased in Japan. This new handheld will potentially be where the next Metroid game in the series will land. Our friends over at Aussie Nintendo are attending the event and have been updating their website with various thoughts about the system and the games. Check them out, it’s quite an interesting read!
A short while ago we updated on a cosplayer called PixelNinja who created a very impressive looking Varia Suit. She has recently showcased her latest Metroid cosplay, the Gravity Suit! Personally, I feel this is even more impressive than the Varia Suit! You can check out her Gravity Suit and her other cosplays here and she has also taken pictures of both suits in various design stages during their creation. You can check those out here.
Finally, I would like to thank people for the feedback from the Justin Bailey Adventures we’ve had some positive feedback so far and we’re enjoying making it. Saturday is hard at work creating chapter 2 and i’m busy writing up a solid script a few chapters ahead of that. Keep an eye out for the next chapter at some point next month.
That’s pretty much it for now, as I said there really isn’t a whole lot of news going around. I suggest checking out the forums and partake in some discussion with humans. Or maybe I can send our pet Ridley over to do a little dance for you…he’s been a bit bored recently and he’s a bit fat since the festive period, he needs to work off the pounds..
