Feature: Interviews with the Metroid fan websites

Wednesday, December 29th, 2010

Since November, the largest Metroid fan websites have been working with Shinesparkers to provide interviews for the rest of the community. We submitted a few questions to one another and ended up with a list that each of us could answer. This is a great opportunity to see what the influential people of each website thinks and feels towards Metroid , running a fan website, the future of the franchise and how it all started for them.

This is the first time such a partnership has gone ahead and I can honestly say the response was better than I could expect! Every single Metroid website I approached for this feature said yes and everyone worked hard to ensure that this got out on time. I would like to thanks Infinity’s End and CapCom of the Metroid Database, MetroidMaster1914 of Metroid Headquarters, Falcon Zero of Metroid Recon, Nate of Metroid 2002 and FastLizard of Wikitroid for playing their part in this feature.

On behalf of us all, we thank you for taking an interest in us and our content, there would be no point in doing it without you all! Thanks very much!

Shinesparkers secret project

Saturday, December 18th, 2010

There may have been a lack of Metroid news lately, but Shinesparkers are hard at work on various different projects. Next month we have an exclusive project that will be taking place here on the site that I hope you will all enjoy. I won’t say too much about it because I want to keep it a surprise for now. The secret project will be revealed on the 1st January 2011.

We are also hard at work on various interviews, we have decided to spread them out a little to give the people who are replying to them enough time to get their replies to us as they’ve been a little busy over the holiday period. Rest assured, we have plenty of interviews in the pipeline for you to enjoy over the next few months. Stay tuned!

Super Metroid: Remastered

Saturday, December 18th, 2010

Last Month we updated with news on a Super Metroid remix project by TenchuX titled “What would Samus do?” a project that hoped to raise money for the Childs Play charity. The project is now complete and the soundtrack is available to download on the website. The good news is that so far, the project has raised (at the time of writing) an incredible $419.77! TenchuX hopes to raise at least $1,000 so if you like the soundtrack, you can still donate and help him reach the target. Still, this is an excellent achievement and I’d like to personally thank TenchuX and everyone who has donated so far to help this worthwhile charity out. We will keep you updated on the progress of the project and the target it hopes to achieve.

Metroid Headquarters podcast

Saturday, December 11th, 2010

Just felt I should update with something to help our affiliate, Metroid Headquarters promote their latest venture, the official Metroid Headquarters podcast! The podcast is run by one of their latest additions to their team, Falcool and he has put together a rather interesting podcast for fans to enjoy. They even kindly gave us a mention!

Also, we’re eagerly awaiting a couple of interviews which should hopefully be on our website this month, so keep an eye out for those. For the time being, please visit our forums and if you want to win some prizes, consider joining in with our joint giveaway with our affiliates The Joypads where you can win 2000 Nintendo points(UK only), a £20 PSN card (UK only) or a 2100 Microsoft points card (Worldwide).

Shinesparkers and The Joypads giveaway!

Monday, December 6th, 2010

We have teamed up with its affiliate, The Joypads to give prizes to members who enter a little competition. Administrator of the site ‘Ghost’ will be giving away 2000 Nintendo points to the winner of a caption competition. It’s certainly more than enough to get you both Super Metroid and Metroid from the virtual console, or to spend on whatever else you like! All you have to do is come up with a funny caption to go with the image he will be posting.

Alternatively, Ghost will provide a £20 PSN card or 2100 Microsoft Points if you wish to have one of those instead. This competition is open to everyone, but if you live outside of the UK, you will only be offered the 2100 Microsoft Points prize because that is a universal code that will work anywhere in the world.
