Community update

Saturday, November 27th, 2010

I’m sure you have all noticed that there hasn’t been a great deal going on in the Metroid universe lately, however I figured I’d take this quiet period to update you all on a few things that will be going on in the next month.

We should hopefully have an interview with Nate Bihldorff soon, we have recently sent our questions off to Nintendo to talk about Metroid: Other M and his work on various other Metroid games he has played a part in. Fingers crossed they will get back to us soon so we can have this up on the website for you to enjoy.

We also have an end of year feature planned that involves all of the big Metroid website admins coming together for the first time to discuss their thoughts on the franchise. It will hopefully give you an insight into the people that run the large communities you enjoy visiting.

I would also like to take this opportunity to invite visitors to join our forum community. Please check out our forums and join in on the discussions we have, or start your own!

Also, if you have Twitter, you can follow us and keep yourself up to date on all the latest updates @shinesparkers.

Metroid music for charity: What Would Samus Do?

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

Metroid fans aren’t just passionate, but also quite generous! Another Metroid charity event is taking place this month called ‘What would Samus do?’ a project run by TenchuX who plans to remaster the Super Metroid soundtrack to raise funds for the Childs Play Charity. The aim of the charity is to raise funds to give children who are suffering in hospital beds in over 60 hospitals worldwide toys and games to keep themselves occupied and bring a little bit of happiness during those difficult times.

TenchuX will be releasing a track once per day, every day from the 24th November to the 15th December. If you wish to donate to the cause or learn more about the project and the charity, check out the sources below.

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

Spike TV’s annual videogame award ceremony is going to be held on Saturday, December 11th in Los Angeles and Metroid: Other M has been nominated for the award of ‘Best Wii game’ for the year. The game is up against Super Mario Galaxy 2, Kirby’s Epic Yarn and Donkey Kong Country Returns. Given the fact that Metroid: Other M hasn’t sold as well as expected, can it claim a victory as the best game of 2010?

Metroid: Other M Sales: Week 10

Saturday, November 13th, 2010

It has been ten weeks since the launch of Metroid: Other M. In this time it is quite clear that the game didn’t meet the expectations of Nintendo. A game that was hoping to sell more than previous incarnations, with a ton of advertisement and hype for the game, it just didn’t pay off. In the tenth week, sales for Other M has dropped back down after a couple of weeks on the rise. The game managed just 12,242 worldwide, their lowest yet and sales dropped in all regions. The USA saw sales of just 7,428 (down from 9,412 last week) while Japan only managed 1,377 (down from 1,441) and combined sales for Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia sold just 3,437 (down from 6,908).

Varia Suit cosplay by Pixelninjas

Wednesday, November 10th, 2010

Jenni Källberg (a.k.a Pixel Ninja), an award winning cosplayer from Sweden who has created videogame costumes such as Zelda and Raiden has recently finished a Varia Suit costume. This extremely detailed costume looks incredibly realistic looking and is by far one of the best costumes i’ve ever seen. Jenni has attracted much attention for her costumes and was even invited along by Nintendo of Europe for a photo shoot for the release of Metroid Prime Trilogy in Germany. To see images of the suit and to learn more about Jenni and her other work, you can do so by visiting her website in the source.

Fantastic effort Jenni! We wish you the best of luck with your future creations!

Metroid Other M sales: Week 9

Friday, November 5th, 2010

Sales for Metroid: Other M have risen again this week, selling 17,761 copies this week alone (up from 14,967 last week). The USA saw sales of 9,412 copies (up from 7,679) and combined sales for Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia sold 6,908 copies (up from 5,662). However in Japan, sales have continued to fall, with just 1,441 copies sold this week (down from 1,626). This brings total sales of the game since launch to 542,612 worldwide.
