Samus and her PTSD

Friday, September 10th, 2010

I found a rather interesting article today I thought i’d share with you all. If you have played Metroid: Other M you may remember the scene where Samus encounters Ridley and is absolutely terrified as he approaches her. Many fans have questioned why this was the case given that she has faced Ridley numerous times in the past. Apparently, this is all down to PTSD (Post-traumatic stress disorder) and is connected to the death of her parents on KL-2 when she was still a young child. Her mother was killed before her very eyes by Ridley himself and because Samus thought she had destroyed him back on planet Zebes, seeing him again was enough to cause the PTSD to kick in.

The article can be found here and is quite an interesting read. It also shows a reference to the manga where PTSD is mentioned. So if you’re struggling to understand why Samus reacted in the way that she did, I urge you to check this out. Extra thanks go to the Metroid Database where this article was brought to my attention.
