Article: Other M: Two Years Later

Back in January, we posted our first opinion piece on a concept for Metroid: Wii U in an attempt to offer some additional content to the website. Recently, Metroid: Other M celebrated its 2nd anniversary, and staff member Naner has aired some of his thoughts and opinions on the game. Be sure to give it a read in the Articles/Features section or click the image above!

I loved Other M. It was always bashed so incredibly hard by the interwebs. But in truth, people were actually looking at the story of the game more than the graphics and gameplay. Normally it’s the other way around! Do you hear people talking about the extremely sad and depressing parts about Modern Warfare and Battlefield? No, you hear about the online, graphics, and technical junk. Other M was all about story and people actually paid attention to it! The last scene when Adam exits stage right for good, I was on the edge of tears (seriously, as a man it’s tough to admit. But I also cried like a baby when Draco died in Dragonheart and still do) Now sure, we can all agree that the power suit design in M:OM was horrible, in that it looked the exact same throughout the whole experience and the there was no gravity SUIT; but instead just a function. And yeah, sure it was a Fusion reboot, but it helped bridge a gap that in my mind would have been better off explained through a handheld or full time 3d sidescroller. Just like the Prime series seemed like a “parallel universe” M:OM could have just started another (I don’t see it as canon). And they [Nintendo] have basically turned the baby Metroid into Ridley, in that it never “dies” and constantly holds story significance.

Scratch what I said about the storyline (Though I still think it is impressive). I agree with you Derkaness, the story should only be the focus point on books, comics,tv series, and movies. On games the gameplay and the graphics matter! People are thinking the complete opposite. I now have no problem with the game’s short length and I barely reach low life (The game is still 110% fun). Making the game a perfect one. I don’t care how linear Other M is! Don’t people realize how much of a powerhouse and how boring the game would be if it wasn’t so linear. The game is perfect (and AWEsome). The graphics are amazing for the Wii (I do agree that are awesome even compared to HD)thanks to D-rockets. This game deserves a 10/10!

Metroid: Other M is a good game! The gameplay is amazing, the graphics are awesome (Like totally,), the music is well played, and the storyline is great! This is Nintendo we are talking about!!! They are Japanese, and they image Samus in a different way instead of the way an American studio did (Retro). So what if Samus is weak? She never died, she never gave up, she escaped Zebes, she conquered the Metroid Homeworld! And this how you treat the storyline?!? There is only three problems with the gameplay to me. Concentration for life is only a slight problem sense it is totally easy (and fun) to sensemove. Then, Hard Mode saps the fun out of the game (More Frustrating, no expansions). Finally I hate how short the game is, but that doesn’t stop me from restarting my data several times. So my score is 9.0/10. This is one of the games that show the true potential of the Wii,the Wii remote, the Sci-Fi genre, and the action gaming genre. I can’t wait to see what team ninja does next. Double thumbs-up,applause,and whoops (In credit) for the success Metroid: Other M has made.
