Metroid II: Return of Samus heading for 3DS eShop

We all knew it was going to happen sooner or later. Metroid II: Return of Samus has been announced for the 3DS eShop and will be released later this year says Nintendo. The announcement is sure to be welcome by many fans who wanted to see Nintendo release Metroid II to mark the 25th anniversary of Metroid, which celebrated its birthday on the 6th August 2011.

Those who prefer to re-live some classic adventures are in for a treat as Virtual Console for Nintendo 3DS is bringing an array of Game Boy™ games to Nintendo 3DS – Super Mario Land 26 Golden Coins™ and Metroid™ II – Return of Samus will both be making their way to download from Nintendo eShop before the year is out.

Interestingly, Metroid II: Return of Samus will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in November and if Nintendo stick to their word in regards to release, the release of the game on the 3DS eShop will tie in nicely with this.

Back in July, Nintendo announced that 3DS owners who purchased the system prior to the global price drop would be entitled to 20 free games (10 NES, 10 GBA) later in the year, one of which would be Metroid Fusion. It’s nice to see that 3DS owners will have two good reasons to look forward to before the year is out.
